Workshops

Workshops are a useful design research activity, delivering insight into how your intended audience operate in and understand the world.

They also assist in building a better understanding of participants’ needs, behaviours and motivations as they relate to the product or service under exploration.

Workshops can be a time effective way of gathering insight, allowing for input from multiple participants in a single research activity. They also benefit from a group dynamic that can promote conversation and ideas that may not flow as easily in an interview.

Our workshops are designed to provide an interactive and engaging experience for participants, whether they are internal stakeholders or customers/users of your product or service.

Typically 1.5-2 hours in duration, each workshop begins with an icebreaker activity followed by a mixture of individual and group work in an open, non-threatening, environment.

Whilst workshops regularly include some form of co-design activity, the exact nature of activities are determined by the nature of the product or service being explored, and the research question and goals of the workshop.

We work closely with project stakeholders to prepare a tailored session plan for each workshop. This plan outlines the discussion topics, questions and specific activities that will be incorporated within the workshop, and how they relate to the research objective(s). This investment in planning and structure ensures we are always working towards a goal, however the flexibility to adapt based on group dynamics and responses is also a key element of our approach. Any pivot within a workshop will enhance, rather than compromise, outcomes.

Workshops can be used to explore current state experiences, or assist in the design of new and emerging products and services. The insights derived from workshops can be used to inform the creation of a number of artefacts including personas, experience maps and future state customer journeys.
